ASUS S56CA-WH31 15.6-Inch Vouchers

Evan Ferwerda:
Not quite as fast as I hoped, but still performs very well. smart pad is very useful once figured out

sportsphotographer:
We had this two days and half the screen went blank on the 2nd day. After googling the problem, I discovered that this is an ongoing quality issue with ASUS, so I just decided to return it to Amazon. Amazon was great and took it back with no problems. Steer clear!

Dawn Carlo (Aiea, Hawaii USA):
I bought this laptop for my little sister, a High School student. Although I admit that I originally intended to purchase it for myself, but seeing as I very much prefer desktop PC (I build what I use). The size of the laptop is perfect for my sister's usages, which goes between doing homework, internet shenanigans and whatnot.

I would say that if you're looking for portability, this may not be the best option. I do admit that the laptop itself is adequately light. Much lighter than the laptops of this size from a few years ago. But then again, this is a hybrid hdd-ssd laptop. The SSD is mini, the capacity might be small but I took the liberty of installing a much bigger capacity mini-SSD (128gb) I have as a spare. And dedicated the 500gb for storaging purposes.

I have little doubt that she will be able to fill the 500gb storage anytime soon but in the meantime, it's turned into a great machine that will serve her computing needs. And for the price? You can't go wrong with this choice.

Phillip M Enright:
If you 'google' this product, you will find many other purchasers have had massive problems with it. It would seem to have inherent design/manufacture problems to do with its power management system and the motherboard.
What is more concerning is that ASUS does not provide an acceptable level of 'ASUS owned' technical/service backup for their products. In California, the product has to go back to a small independent service company in LA which doesn't seem to get too much support and backing from ASUS. The same is true in Australia - only a handful of small companies providing service for the whole of the country.
I bought mine on Amazon in 2011 for around $1500 (mine is the 256GB SSHD) - it's motherboard died just outside the warranty period. That cost $600 to replace from the LA service agent. Within a few months it developed a fault which causes it to not be able to go into sleep mode and be 're-awakened', without the battery being run down; recharged then re-booted. I've read in forums this is a common problem which ASUS just doesn't want to know about. This product should have a recall it is that deficient.
Consumers should not buy ASUS products until this company fulfils at least the minimum acceptable service support obligation as does DELL, HP, Toshiba and others.

The Dymond "The Dymond" (Bend, OR):
First let me say that I'm giving this laptop 5 starts only because I un-installed Windows 8 and installed dual-boot Windows 7 & Kali Debian linux in it's place. Windows 8 is aweful and I highly recommend people purchase Windows 7 or wait until Windows 9 if at all possible. Putting that aside . . .

I have used this for about 3 weeks now, off and on. The keyboard types quite comfortably, the screen is sharp and clear. The SSD drive and 4GB of memory allow this to run significantly faster than my desktop workstation which uses a SATA disk drive. It's light-weight, sharp looking, and the battery lasts a very long time. I am extremely pleased with the product and would easily replace it with a newer model in the future.

Richard J.:
This laptop is very fast and thin, pretty much what i expected.

One thing to note: You only get about 50-60 GB of ssd storage for your personal use if you are buying the 128 GB model

 April M., Ahing-brooks "A.Brooks" (florida) :
This computer is really great for the price. It's good on battery life with the extended battery turn on option located on the screen if your battery starts getting low. The clarity of the screen is good for viewing the sites and it's lightweight construction makes carrying easy. I'm well pleased with my purchase and the delivery time was quick. Thank you.

Giraudlaw (USA):
I decided to give a chance to Asus after Sams didn't have a Dell to sustitute my HP that broke in less than 2 years. The reviews were good, so I bought it. My first impression was how cheap the material look and feel, not like my Dell and the HP. Other problem was that is a finger print magnet, always looks dirty. But what make me change it was the poor almost inaudible sound of the speakers, I need to use headphones to hear. Didn't like neither that the hard disk is in two partitions. It runs well the programs and the screen looks good, is windows 8 fault the software problems, but I expected more for an almost $400.00 computer and that brand. Finally, I found a Dell for $40.00 more, change it and now I'm happy. Not recommended unless it cost you under $300.00.

Emma Kennedy "Book Addiction" (San Jose, CA):
At first I was a bit intimidated by this laptop but as I got more familiar with the Windows 8 concept I began to see that it actually made more sense in some areas. The probs I did have were more with getting used to Windows 8 than with the laptop itself. The laptop is great - I found the numbers keypad on it to be a great help to me, and surprisingly, it's lighter than than my older one. This is definitely worth it.

ASUS Vivobook V500CA-EB71T 15.6-Inch Vouchers

 Treyes & Covert Family:
I bought this to replace a Toshiba laptop that we'd been using for a few years. I heard a lot of great things about Asus so I gave it a try. The preformance of this laptop is great but it's the design that I had problems with. The keypad is terrible. The keys are recessed so it makes it very uncomfortable to type. I constantly had to press keys more than once to get a response. I ended up returning and purchasing a HP with the same specs and the keyboard is great!

Lindsay:
This is a very pretty machine. It has everything I needed for the perfect price. HOWEVER, The spacebar does not work 9 out of 10 times that you try to use it. If you are a person like me that has to type a lot, this is a MAJOR problem. The whole keyboard is kind of awkward, but at least the other keys actually worked. Sadly, I had to return it, because who wants a computer without a properly functioning spacebar. It's like a nightmare come true. WTF?!! I would say to take your chances and purchase this if you are the hunt and peck kind of person. Then you might be able to slam the spacebar with all your might perfectly in the middle to get it to work. This doesn't seem to just be a rare defect. I would have to think they are all functioning like this.

Anthony (Beach Park, IL, United States):
I bought this for a graduation present for my niece, and she absolutely loved it. Very powerful machine for the money.

ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VW-AH71 17.3-Inch Vouchers

Amazonaddict:
I bought this review because of the excellent specs for a fairly reasonable price. I had this laptop for no more than a month when a bright pixel appeared on the LED screen. Since the sticker on the box said "0 bright dot guarantee", I didn't really worry about it. However, after contacting customer service, I was told that the "0 Bright dot guarantee" only covered you if you hade 5 or more bright dots. I don't know how my definition of 0 managed to be different than Asus's, but being basically told to go screw myself after spending $1500 on a gaming laptop makes me sick to my stomach. So now I can just walk into dark rooms in games, and say hello to my little green dot that apparantly "Does not impact the perfomance of the machine". Just a horrible annoyance that will ensure that if I purchase another gamning laptop, it will ASBOLUTELY not come from Asus!

 Thomas Lounsbury :
The system runs great. Runs everything I throw at it like a champ. The major flaw and the reason I didn't give it 5 starts is that it has a very annoying audio problem. If I am using the computer with headphones plugged in everything works great... until I have to stop and do something else. When I come back I am blasted by not only the headphones but the speaker as well. The only way to get back to just headphones is to turn the sound off and back on. If I am using Bluetooth headphones the problem is much worse. When I get back the sound does not work.. at all. If I have a video paused I will start it and get no sound. Turning the sound on and off does not fix this problem. The only way to fix it is to disconnect the headset and re-connect it. This is a major issue and is absolutely unacceptable in a laptop at this price point. Multiple driver updates have not fixed the issue.

Yes this a great laptop with power to spare but until the sound issue is fixed I cannot recommend it to others yet.

Manny :
Well I just received my G75vw. To start off he look is amazing by far the best laptop I have decided to purchase with this price tag. Truly sleek and sexy with a little oomph in the back it is impressive. I dislike windows 8 but that isn't a killer for me. What did knock atleast a star off of the rating is when playing LoL I get massive lag spikes for a few seconds which is enough to die (which is rather annoying). I have updated some of the drivers. Mainly gpu, bios.. Next will be wireless and anything else I find when searching the web for a bit of advice ( including the lovely bloat ware from the cd). Now I gave it 3 stars for that fact. Having to do so much updating right off the box that is slightly annoying. Unless it is something with new computers that have came out in 2012 (last computer is a dell inspirion 14z) which in all honestly is alot faster with no pinging issues. This leads me to believe there is a obvious disconnect some where and a driver needs updated or something is faulty. I work full time grave yard and have school 16 credit hours so my schedule is full. Typically just want to hop online game for a hour or two to relax then get on with my day but having to research how to get a computer operating properly ( I am not computer person) is just a bit annoying. So 3 stars until said issue is fixed then will see how this baby performs once fully working!

ASUS VivoBook S400CA-DH51T 14-Inch Vouchers

IT GOLD (Tempe, AZ United States):
Upgrade to Win 8 pro went smoothly. Didn't have too much garbage to uninstall prior to using (although, there is always some). Windows 8 is performing fine in an enterprise environment (70-person domain). This comp, in conjunction with Win 8, found all printers without downloading drivers, which was nice. Laptop boots fast and the touchscreen works well.

Two negatives: the touchscreen adds a little weight and thickness; the battery appears to be built in (non-removable).

NB:
Laptop is good, boots up very fast. Screen response to touch is excellent. Keyboard is not the best, but its not too bad either. Had initial hiccup with HD streaming videos being choppy (on both Netflix and YouTube). Removed Asus Power4Gear battery saver software, and now everything runs perfectly fine (This program throttled the CPU to conserve battery, the lower CPU speed caused HD streaming to be choppy). Also McAfee antivirus is unnecessary. I miss the dedicated volume keys, wish there was a function lock key.

azalea1984:
I had read a lot of positive reviews so after some intensive research and talking to some sales reps at Best Buy I decided to buy this ultrabook by Asus. It's my first hours of usage, but I am simply impressed. This ultrabook is beautiful, unbelievably light, very fast even with the installed 4Gb RAM (such that I'm thinking of sending back the additional 4Gb RAM I ordered with this package) and the overall performance is just great.

The sound quality and graphics are perfect for me cause I'm a PhD student and don't need a heavy gaming thing. It doesn't get warm while charging. It's very quiet too. In addition, there are some horror stories here about the touch pad and the key board, both are just really good. The touch screen works great too.

Also what's wrong with you people? Windows 8 is no big deal to get used to. I really like the new interface. It's very modern and compatible with other devices we use in today's world.

All in all, I love this cute little thing and like it way more than the MacBook my friend got for 1500 something. Enjoy this and keep your money in your pocket, use the money somewhere else if you are tight on budget.

ASUS X201E-DS02 11.6-Inch Vouchers

Kailua Papio:
I waited a long time for this one. I wanted portability, great battery life, a disk drive and small size. It has blue tooth, HDMI, USB 3.0 has 4 gb ram Windows 8 and it is small enough to carry for travel, but big enough so you can read the screen. Any way the build quality is very high and it is very light. I downloaded classic shell so the laptop is looking like a classic windows laptop. The touch pad is responsive and I have also used the unit with a wireless mouse and big monitor and keyboard and it worked flawlessly. Having HDMI means I can show pictures on our big TV and the resolution was great. Battery life is about 5 hours--I know because used it for 5 hours straight. I could not be happier!

Emily Carpenter :
I've had the ASUS 11.6 " for about a month now and everything is working well. I bought this primarily for the size/weight and was interested in a lower price computer with enough hard drive size and speed. I'm really happy with all these functions and Windows 8 hasn't even annoyed me too much yet, but I primarily use all functions from the desktop not Start Screen.
Pros: Screen is nice and clear, and font size adjustment makes it easy to read. Keyboard is a little small, but not uneasy to use. No complaints with the speed yet.
Cons: Only main complaint is the touchpad, which is a little large for the size of the computer and my palm sometimes drags against it when typing and moves the cursor without me wanting it to. The touchpad is also a little under-sensitive when scrolling. #2 Battery life seems good, about 3-4 hours, but the battery only recharges when the computer is off/sleeping.

Upul Doluweera :
Pros : Good design and portability, Great display and good for average user
Cons : Power adapter died within a week. Relatively low processor speed.

Tip : Go for a core i3 processor.

ASUS A55A-AH51-RD 15.6-Inch Vouchers

Joshua Wibisono:
I bought this laptop on Cyber Monday Sale for a total of $545, after tax and shipping. It was a pretty good investment considering that it is i5 and 750GB hard drive. The only setback on this laptop is the sound. The sound sounds a little choppy and, but you can just buy speakers or use a headset to fix this problem. Overall, good laptop for school/gaming and I would recommend this laptop to my friends/family

McKayla Evans :
My macbook pro finally expired of old age and sadly i've been kicked off the parental gravy train so I couldn't afford a new one. I considered the sony e series but i'm happy I went with the ASUS. The size, speed, and capacity is perfect for me. I have no complaints about windows 8 and had no problem learning how to use it. I got my laptop before the estimated delivery date and the price was almost $100 dollars less than at Best Buy. Good buy. Hopefully it lasts me awhile.

 M. Klinker (Cleveland, OH):
ASUS has been a manufacturer of motherbords for about 20 years. I know because I bought them when I built PC's. I think they make the best on the market. I am not sure how long they have been making and selling computers, but Yeah!! I bought this one for my daughter to replace her PC. I am not so sure about the W8 thing, and she complained a bit at first, but she is doing very well with it now, and while she wont admit to it, I doubt she would switch back to W7 if she had the chance to do so. THis laptop has more bang for the buck with more memory and larger hard drive and better motherboard and chipset than other laptops for noticeably less $. Rest assured the quality is there. She has been using for about 3 months now and is very happy with the machine and that dad bailed her out... again.

ASUS G75VX-DH72-CA Republic Vouchers

mike barrett :
Love the computer; no doubt about that. I like the larger hard drive space and the sound system is pretty awesome too.

Cons? Windows 8. Too bad you weren't selling this with Windows 7 OS. I would have actually paid more for that one to be put onto this. too bad, but I can live with it.

 Joseph Perez :
Very quite, very cool, blazing fast, great screen, great keyboard, very happy. After many Toshibas I think this is better quality and better design. I am buying another Asus for my brother in law. Have always uses Asus Mother Boards and now probably laptops also

 jamesleeoldham:
I hate window 8 so much , and I think older models are better than newer ones. window8 has issues problem , who ever has window 8 right now good luck to who got it .

Asus N56VM-RB71 15.6' LED Notebook Vouchers

Thomas Bell (Burleson, TX USA):
When the system arrived I had a couple of problems with blue screens. After updating video and touchpad drivers all problems are cured. This notebook is phenominal. I love everything about it. The display is bright, sharp and has great viewing angle. The system is fast, the keyboard has a good feel and I love the fact that it is backlit. If you buy this computer you won't be disappointed.

 Juddy Harris:
It was missing a few drivers, no big deal and it was evident it was made for sale in a foreign country (other than english speaking). Other than get through the set up it has been great. Thanks,

Nadia Haschart:
Considering it is refurbished and there is a little risk with such a short warranty... it is a nice laptop. Nice, as in works like it should with what it has in it. It can run 3DSMax and Skyrim without any hiccups or low frame rates. I replaced the security system with Avast and installed Windows updates and it has been working smoothly for two weeks. The backlight keys are a bit garish but much preferred to none at all. The trackpad is awful, just get a mouse and you will be fine.

ASUS K55N-DS81 15.6-Inch Vouchers

Michael Freed:
I did a lot of research before finally purchasing this laptop by ASUS. The biggest selling points for me were as follows:

ASUS 1 year "360 Notebook Warranty" including 1 year of Accidental Damage/Handling and a Limited 1 year manufacturer warranty.
The AMD A8 4500M APU is super speedy. If you're purchasing a laptop beware that the A6 4400 has a 1MB L2 cache while the A8 has a BIG 4MB L2 cache. While the dual core is rated at a higher frequency the quad core is capable of handling multiple data loads simultaneously much more efficiently.
The Radeon 7640G has 512mb dedicated memory and is capable to pull from the system resources. While this machine CANNOT run games at the highest settings it does an excellent job of being able to run MOST games at low-med settings with high FPS.
4gb ram upgradeable to 16gb.

Pros: Low Price point, 1 year ADH warranty, fast quad core cpu, 4mb L2 cache, fast HDD, fast boot option, instant on resume function- 2 second wake-up from sleep mode.

Cons: Poor viewing angles on screen, plastic shell/case,

Jeff Bloom (Norfolk, VA) :
I doubted this laptop would perform that well given its $399 price tag. Incredibly I continue to be blown away by its superb performance, it has quickly become my favorite (of six) computers to use! Even though it's comprised of plastic, it's light weight and superior performance leave me wanting little. Even with 3D games, the performance continues to astound me given the low price I paid.

I bought a 16GB memory upgrade for $85 a week later and it has solidly placed this laptop at the top of my techy toys list. I am dumbfounded by the sheer performance of this low cost laptop.

Pros: low price, above average performance, memory up-gradable to 16GB and out performs my MacBook that cost $1300.

Cons: Made of plastic and does not have superman powers..

Ms Milk:
I bought this laptop for $379 and it is definitely a great deal. My only dislikes are that there's a number pad squeezed in which makes it harder to type, the battery saving mode negatively affects the wireless (this can be turned off under the advanced power options), you need two fingers to scroll, and the speakers are really tinny. I use it for internet and mild gaming. It can run the Sims 3 at 50FPS, Minecraft, Skyrim, and Cube World beautifully. The Max RAM is 16GBs not 8 like the details say. I loved that it did not come with bloatware. Norton and a few pointless Windows 8 games were the only things I had to remove.

ASUS S46CA-XH51 14.1-Inch Vouchers

 David Mccann :
With a shrinking number of ultrabooks with Windows 7 on them as shipped, this system offers a really good mix of hard-to-find features including VGA and HDMI port, an RJ45 network jack, and throw in a DVDRW drive and 1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. The traditional hard drive with small SSD cache is a good compromise on a low-cost system. Very thin yet feels solid with aluminum casing. Really the only negatives are lack of backlit keyboard and trackpad a little tricky to get used to (left/right buttons are integrated into pad), and no recovery media and no way to make them, a poor trend for most vendors.

amateur wrench:
ASUS was recommended to me as a good brand, this seems to be the best 14" with Win 7, Amazon had the best price through another seller Technology Galaxy. However, return policy for TG is once the box is open it's yours, no exceptions, my bad for not reading the fine print. Right out of the box the cooling fan ran fast and loud, you could hear it in the next room. When typing in Word, email or in a web text box, the cursor would jump around causing you to manually set it back to the end of a sentence to continue typing. That's enough for me to return it, but as stated above, the return policy won't allow it. I spent hours with ASUS tech support via chat (tech support was good) to download a chipset to solve the cooling fan problem and some other software upgrade to stop the cursor jumping. Fan is solved, it runs quiet now, the cursor is still problematic, but we finally figured out how to disable the touchpad, the laptop is primarily used with a mouse. Another review talked about the touchpad being the deal killer too, take note. Other than that, the unit works fine (now) for word processing, web surfing, and some simple psychology testing software. If you want to buy this brand/model, go find one that you can demo before you commit. Buy direct from Amazon so you can return it if you don't like it. Beware of sellers selling through Amazon, they might not let you return it if you open the box.

sushi "xdancer" (New York) :
this was by far the easiest setup of my 10? laptops -- based on reviews i read here i chose this model (with win 7) over a new vaio with win 8 (my last 5 computers have all been vaios) -- seamless, fast setup, speedy, lots of RAM -- only caveat is no numeric keypad but i only used it to type accents, so --

downloaded browsers, software, printer drivers & updated versions of this n' that -- no problem whatsoever. so far so good -- it's only tweaking & transferring files now -- from the previous laptop whose touchpad i drowned --

ASUS External 12X Blu-Ray Burner with USB 3.0 BW-12D1S Vouchers

 OzarkMark:
I bought this based on the excellent trade magazine expert reviews, primarily to use as backing up bluray & dvd movies onto my laptop hard drive to watch later as I travel a lot. I own the hp DV6 laptop available from Best Buy right now. The built in drive on the laptop isnt all that fast, but this Asus, with its included USB 3.0 cable, is insanely fast at ripping DVDs! And burning them.back to disk, too. Finding blank bluray media is still a challenge locally, dont know how well it burns blurays yet, but it does take a LONG time to rip a full bluray to HDD. Count on an hour or two, maybe more! I havent had occasion to use all the included software, but the installation is quick & easy.
Im very happy with this unit, integrates well wiith Windows 7& my laptop. Burns DVD disk movie only copies in about 15 minutes. DL DVD full movies in about 20+ minutes with all menus & special features. Would definitely recommend & buy again!

Eric Esterle :
I have burned two 25GB Blu-ray discs with the USB 3.0 Asus BW-12D1S-U on a Thunderbolt capable 15.4" MacBook Pro Retina. Using this configuration to backup from a 6TB Western Digital Thunderbolt drive, I can burn a 25GB BD in about 10 min. Only hangup is using Toast 11 Titanium the drive will hang at 99%. Disabling "write verfication" doesn't resolve this issue, but killing the burn at 99% leaves a validly burned and readable disc. I plan to test this more with the 50GB discs in a few minutes. The Asus software is pretty horrid though and only supports Windows. So if you want to update the firmware when/if Asus releases a firmware update you have to have a Windows box, which I tested on my sons computer and Asus still had no firmware updates available. Apple should have a Blu-ray solution included, but until they do we the consumer have to jump through hoops like this so I guess I can't complain. It's less work than using a Linux box and more reliable and less annoying than using a Windows box. All things considered, until a Thunderbolt Blu-ray solution arises this is as good or equivalent than any other USB 3.0 or SATA solution on the market currently--read, good, but can be better.

Suswyn :
The external USB 3.0 drive is really fast and quiet. The only quirk with it is the included software did not autorun, and the Asus Firmware update link did not work.....maybe this drive is too new to need a firmware update but the software takes you straight there when you finally get it installed and the the Asus site cannot find the drive unless you type in the serial number then the page freezes. The actaul cyberlink (asus bundled) software looks great but the music player does not recognize mp3 files and you have to convert you audio files from mp3 to wma or wav in order to play them in this software (PowerDVD/Cyberlink Media suite).

ASUS Lamborghini VX6-PU17-WT 12.1-Inch Vouchers

M. Russell (Barbados):
I am a mac user but wanted a windows computer to run certain programs. Therefore I needed the computer to be as easy to use and efficient as a mac. This is one of the best investments I have ever made. Its top of the line software and speed make it a joy to use. I certainly don't regret this purchase.

 Enhance :
I have owned this computer for over a year now and am overall happy with the purchase. However, it is slower than I thought it would be. The biggest bottle neck seems to be the processors according to the Windows experience application. It does have a great battery life, and sleek look to it. The problem is, it lags during normal operation in super performance mode plugged in just using Word; just trying to type a word can result in waiting 1-2 seconds for the new letters to appear. Also, it is very difficult to swap out the hard drive. I found a French forum (written in French) that outlines a detailed method of removing and replacing the hard drive, but this requires taking the netbook apart completely. The ram was easy to upgrade although 32 bit windows does not recognize all 4 gigs and when I tried to install 64-windows last summer, and Asus does have drivers for 64-bit it was not stable enough for me and went back to the 32-bit. With that said, I still am a huge fan of Asus and these products.

 Andrew :
I found this netbook to be great! For the dollar value there are netbooks for a little better money, but i love the way this looks alot and it's very functional. The netbook comes installed with a 64bit version of windows 7 also which is nice. I'd recommend this to anyone that is interested in having a netbook that's a little more premium and functional. If you're not worried just get one a little cheaper. I rated it 4 stars simply because it's not the most cost effective netbook option but it's a great netbook either way. I'd recommend adding 4gb of RAM also. Makes it even better!

Ivan J Garrity (Markham, ON & Dallas, TX):
Nice all around for price with excellent feature set with great Amazon service. Keyboard is frustrating and possibly a deal breaker for heavy users.

G:
So my screen died 1 year and 3 weeks after purchase. ASUS will not cover it under warranty (1 year). Unless you want your purchase to break after a year, don't purchase ASUS.

Mark Seelig :
Thin, light and very fast. Log Battery life. Looks good and has good keyboard and hi def screen. I was very impressed with this laptop.

Stephanie diaz :
it didnt even fit my computer. And you guys dont have the size of my computer its 13.3 asus notebook.

 svu:
I have just gotten this case, and I like it a lot! I appreciate the sturdy material and how well it fits on my ASUS Vivobook! I like the translucent quality and the structure of it. I love the pink color, although it is different from what I expected. From the picture I imagined more of a softer pink, but what I have is more on the hot pink side. I don't mind that, the ASUS I have is actually the hot pink one so it works nicely together. The only thing keeping this from a 5, which I'm not sure if it's only because of the one I got or if they're all like this, the top part of the cover on the bottom left that little, last ridge doesn't click on all the way onto my laptop. It's minor and is something I can live with but something that bothers me enough to lose a star. Other than that, I am really pleased with my purchase!

Evangelina M. Gonzalez :
I appreciate the speed and efficiency of the Seller. With regards to the product though, I just couldn't like the look of the plastic hard cover. I will return and will look for moleskin type of laptop cover.

The right click button on the touchpad is a little messed up. It only sometimes works and it sticks a little. The rest of the time it just left clicks.

Furthermore it has the speakers on the bottom of the laptop. (A very poor choice of location in my opinion.) However, sound quality is still good.

Besides those things, it's a good solid laptop.
If you use an external mouse, you'll be fine.

I bought this model from Best Buy today and used it for 30 mins. Only then I realized it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I need this to run cartoon CDs for my toddler girl. So I am thinking of returning it tomorrow. I am new to Windows 8 and so I was bit blank while using it in some places. Other than these I like this laptop... Sharp camera, very sleek, no lap heat, less weight... These things impressed me.. I would not return this laptop if the DVD drive is not missing....

I just wanted to warn everyone from the seller Antonline.com/ antonline.
He sold me this Lenovo laptop as a new one and I later found out it was used. The problem was that after 7 months the laptop began to fail; so I contacted lenovo technical support and they said that the warranty had already expired on May 3, 2013 ( bought it on Nov 22, 2012) and they said it was used on Marh 7 2012. So I now have to pay for the repair.
However, since I did not realize that until a few weeks ago I CAN'T leave him a negative feedback nor do an A-Z guarantee thing. Although he has positive feedback, I am sure that this has previously happened to someone else, and maybe just like me, is now unable to leave negative feedback.
P.S I have already contacted him and he is not responding so I had to do this to get his attention. I will keep you guys posted on what I am able to resolve.
Thanks

I chose a rating of one because the programs are AWFUL! There is no word processing program on here. Win 8 is not user friendly. The whole point of my purchasing a new laptop was for word processing. ASUS does not have a contract with Microsoft for the user to get Microsoft Starter; instead, you must pay an additional $200 to purchase and activate a key code. If you are needing this for actual work, such as research papers and power point presentation, it is not worth the cost. If you want to do online gaming and social media, it will fit your needs. Absolutely not recommended for those in the world of academia. $700+ wasted.

I'm so glad with this purchase. I chose the refurbished version from Ocean Reef and the result is great. US$ 100 less and feels completely new.

The laptop looks great. The computer is fast and responsive. The touchpad (once I deactivated the tap function) works smooth and great. I would definetely recommend it.

 Jason:
This is an awesome ultrabook. It's fast, light and thin. The keypad is perfect. Win 7 is great for me.

ignacio naveiras llorente :
Good value for our money.
A little slow at times, I'd say it gets stuck more than a 4GB-RAM computer is expected to. Most likely that's down to the i3 processor.
Just make your call: value, lower-performance i3 vs more expensive and higher performing processors.

I cannot think of anything negative about this net-book. This is the most fantastic little net-book that i have ever seen. Yes, I does warm up a little bit but that is because the processor is so powerful. Any computer with a powerful processor will heat up a little but that is okay. it doesn't affect the computers performance one little bit. This net-book is at least 3 times faster then my present net-book even though I had upgraded the ram in my present net-book from 1GB to 2GB. I was afraid that the fan would be too loud. Yes, if you put a sensitive microphone next to it and hooked it up to a loudspeaker, but I could just barely hear it under normal operation. The wireless works great also. It is true that you cannot upgrade the ram in this computer. You don't need too because it is faster than any other net-book without upgrading the ram. Everything about this little gem is perfect as far as I am concerned. Coming from me that is a real compliment because I am very particular when it comes to something that I pay over $100.00 for. I am totally 100% pleased with this net-book and I guarantee that if you buy one you won't regret it.

 Fritz Zwicky "Fritz" (Illinois, USA):
I wanted something small for travel, but when I tested touch screen tablets I wasn't happy. What I hated was the OS used and the fact that only very expensive models have usb in-ports. I explored 10" laptops and from the reviews it was clear that this is the only one to consider. I balked at buying a computer with windows 8, because I dislike the Metro interface. My concerns melted away once the laptop was delivered and I installed startisback software. Now it looks and feels like windows 7. The 10" screen is beautiful and the keyboard is fine. The processor response is acceptable and it can run Photoshop well. The small hard drive is no problem with the use of thumb drives. The price is the best part. Forget touch screen tablets and buy this machine. The only small gripe is I wish the battery lasted all day.

THATCH "RST" (OHIO):
This is a great deal for a netbook-- but be certain that a netbook is not the same thing as an ultrabook. For the savings here you got a less comfortable keyboard and a pretty big lump on the back for the battery. The photos don't do it a good service in showing the thickness of this laptop on the back half and the battery size which isn't integrated well and adds quite a sizable amount of the back.

All of those drawbacks included, this is a dead simple cheap computer and it has Windows 8. You won't find a better deal on a tiny laptop than this. Just don't be surprised that isn't the svelte thing that you might think it is from the pictures.

The one I received had a shiny top instead of the carbon fiber look, and I wasn't pleased with the thickness on the back side so I returned this item. That doesn't mean it's bad though, as long as you know what you're getting for the cost.

He guys, thought I'd write a review on my pc!
So I get this laptop about a week ago, and I'm loving it's performance!
It is very well built, very appealing to the eye. The lit keyboard is a really cool extra feature, and it even helps in the dark sometimes!
The GTX 765m in this thing is no 780m, but is still quite the beast, plays Minecraft (V-Sync turned off) between 100 to 300+ fps. With VSync on, it runs a constant, solid 60 frames a second.
One thing that bugs me (but the pros defintley overweigh the cons) is the pick up of fingerprints and just the oil from the skin. The armrest (where my hand/forearm is) is covered with skin oil on the aluminum finish (If anyone knows how to clean it please tell me!). But, it overall is an amazing pc! Once I can afford Skyrim Legendary Edition, I'll test it on this pc, but I'm sure it will to good! The PC is thick, but after all I heard about the previous model (G75vx) being so heavy, I expected it to be a monster, but it's quite easy if you carry it like a normal person! Overall performance (+amazing look) 10/5!

 Marc:
The first thing I noticed was how solid this computer was. After having this for around a month I can say that I am still very pleased with it. I have been able to play all my games on it on at least medium high to ultra settings. The only problem that I had was that sometimes after playing steam games shutting down steam, re-opening steam and starting to play the same game, the screen starts to blink until I turn it off and on again (only happened twice). BUT, I think that is more of steam's problem rather than Asus' as it ONLY happens when playing games off of steam, so I am not too worried about it. Other than that, it was so awesome to find a powerful and portable (with a backpack) laptop that I can take to my friend's apartment for some starcraft action. Thanks Asus!

Diego Soto:
This computer is great. Yes, it is as big as a building, but if you're looking at a desktop replacement then this is the computer for you. The screen is great, the keyboard feels amazing and it can run process-heavy programs. I use it with design and 3D software and it works like a charm!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?)
Spec and look-wise, I like this laptop. I'm not a big fan of Windows 8 and especially for laptops however, because it isn't designed for easy functionality without a touchscreen in mind. I'm not a big fan of the touchscreen either; maybe stubbornness or it seeming like a gimmick or more cost - I'm not sure. I did recently picked up another laptop before this one and had some time to acclimate to the program, but it is a pain for maneuvering. That seems worth noting since it is the systems OS, but since basically everything comes with it now, it really isn't the device's fault.

As far as looks go, I really like the design of this computer, with nothing fancy added to make it more aesthetically-pleasing. The keyboard type, with the spaced keys, is something I always liked. I've got long fingers and bunched keys are a pain, so this design with spacing works out well. They advertise it as being "cool to the touch," and the computer does stay that way. It also vents out toward the side as it heats up, which is important. I had a computer that vented down, and said I'd never buy one without checking again. It is also easy to grip on the outside, which is nice. Other, smoother laptops sometimes give me a scare when I'm holding them and wondering if this time will be that time it slips.

As far as doing, it runs media and games well, with no problem juggling multiple requests at the same time. For kicks, I tried running multiple types of media at the same time to see what it could handle, and was pleasantly surprised. Flash games run quickly, and more in-depth games do really well on it. I've been playing some MMORPGs as well as throwback horror survival games on it, and have been impressed. The picture on this thing is great, too. Very crisp, with beautiful details. The sound isn't bad for internal speakers, but I've never considered any laptop's sound great without external add-ons. I would've liked a BluRay player on this sucker for the price however, to add to that clarity.

8GBs of RAM, 2 TBs of storage plus, the 2 second wake time (which it really does), lots of USB slots; it really is a good laptop.

 chaos:
This is a great laptop. The intel core i7 processor is powerful. It comes with 8Gb of memory. HDD is 2x 1TB 5400RPM
It has 4 USB ports in total (2 are USB 2.0 and 2 are USB 3.0)
The screen resolution/picture quality is excellent. Audio quality is also great. Watching movies on this laptop is awesome with it's big screen and high quality display.

I love the "Instant On" technology. This laptop starts up so quickly.

The one thing I did not like about this laptop is the keyboard. It is not backlit and it is set too far back (which makes it a bit awkward to use at times, especially for gaming).

I like that this laptop comes with 1 year accidental damage protection. (It covers accidental drops, spills, power surges and fire damage.)

The case is a nice dark gray color. It is sturdy and seems to be of very good quality.

S. R. (USA):
Let me start by stating that I am a novice laptop user, thus, this review will be free of the technical jargon that can otherwise be found in more expert reviews. My initial impression upon unboxing the Asus laptop was that it was very sleek and stylish looking. The concentric circle finish really does eliminate those annoying smudges and fingerprints. I was also surprised to see the layout of the keyboard was similar to a standard PC keyboard, with enough spacing between the keys so as to not be a hindrance to those with thicker fingers. The large size of the screen was also a welcome bonus for a die hard PC user such as myself. The laptop took longer than expected to start up and there was some slowness initially when browsing the internet or using the various programs. This was going to cause my rating of the laptop to fall considerably until I read the other reviews that warned of the unnecessary pre-loaded add-ons that were responsible for the undue lag. I deleted the programs and applications that seemed extraneous, which helped with the slowness considerably. It is confusing why the manufacturer would add so many seemingly useless applications that only serve to slow down the performance of the unit. Windows 8 took a lot of getting used to given that it is not the most user-friendly operating system. But this learning curve is due to my having never used it before and has no bearing on the value of the actual Asus unit.

I was, however, extremely disappointed to find that this laptop did not come with a blu-ray player. My friend has an HP Pavilion which costs considerably less than this Asus but comes with a blu-ray drive. Given that blu-ray discs have eclipsed DVDs in practically every way, it is frustrating that such a highly priced unit still only allows for DVDs to be played. While this may not be a deal breaker for some, for those with extensive blu-ray collections, it is a serious drawback. The battery life is listed as around 3.65 hours but my experience put it at closer to the 2.5 to 3 hour mark. I am not sure if I was doing anything that might have depleted the battery life at a faster rate but this did seem to be on low end when compared to similarly priced laptops. Overall, this is a well designed laptop with plenty of RAM and hard drive capacity. The lingering complaints from this user are the sub par battery life and the lack of a blu-ray drive. Considering the current high retail price for this unit, it might be best to wait until the price drops some more before deciding to purchase.

I first bought a 27" monitor from ASUS and it is outstanding! When I was looking for a gaming laptop I am a Dell Alienware guy but the price was around orbiting pluto. I checked to see if ASUS had a gaming rig and I found this one and I did a side by side comparison. They were almost identical in every way but the biggest difference was a $2000 between Alienware and ASUS. So I bought this rig and I must say it's smoking hot AWESOME!! I own two Alienware massive computers in my man cave and this laptop can keep up with them in everyway! Outstanding quality and performance. Say yes to this rig you will not be sorry at all.

David Stewart :
I read a great deal on this laptop and most reviews were negative with freeze-ups, bluescreens of death and no drivers for the vidio card....Awsome machine, well constructed, chicklet back lit keyboard, sounds good (not great) more memeory on the vidiocard than most laptops have period. I have played games with no slow down or freezing. I have streamed movies not only on the laptop but through the laptop to the TV. No connection problems with my wireless Netgear router nor my bluray player. Wish the battery lasted a bit longer but in game mode with back lighting on dosen't last more than 2 hours. (buy a 2nd btry). Overall if you are not into the laptop for gaming you need much less than this for alot less bucks but if you want THE machine and do not want to spend the bucks on aleinware, or MSI then you may want to consider the ASUS.
This is my 7 month update, Still impressed with this monster. The fans remain quiet even after all this time. Glad I ignored the initial reviews I would buy this again with no hesitatation what-so-ever!

 purplekegler:
The first thing you will notice about this laptop is how heavy it is. Make no mistake, this is not a "carry it to class" laptop! It is a semi-portable gaming desktop replacement. This laptop feels very solid. Everything about it seems bulletproof. The keyboard is back-lit and the finest feeling I've ever encountered. This laptop comes with a Targus backpack and a wired mouse. I purchased this to play Diablo 3 on and the video quality and frame rate is nothing less than stunning. The operating system is installed on the 256GB SSD making boot-up and game play incredibly fast. I cannot say enough good about this computer. If you are looking for a great gaming laptop at a reasonable price and don't care so much about portability than this should be on your short list.

By the way, I'm not joking, this SOB is VERY heavy!
